Vision & values
In June 2016 the City of London Corporation Road Danger Reduction team brought together 12 leading businesses, to forge a partnership and work cooperatively to reduce road danger, reduce climate pollution, and improve business corporate social responsibility. The joint aspiration of these businesses launched the Active City Network.
Over 513,000 people are employed in the Square Mile and the aim of the Active City Network is to establish a communication channel to both talk to, and get feedback from, business partners and members about initiatives to support safer, more active commuting.
The vision of the Active City Network is to work in partnership with City employers to promote sustainable business practices and create a safe, healthy environment in the Square Mile. More people walking and cycling, has many benefits around improved fitness & health, air quality and productivity.
The Network is chaired by Alderman Alison Gowman. It is represented by an active working group of over 15 board members, who represent the numerous partners and members from different industries focused on addressing critical issues around Road Danger Reduction and Sustainability. They steer the Network towards its vision and a sustainable future.
You and your business can join the other 100's of Active City Network members and partners to access exclusive services and work together to improve our City.
Alderman Alison Gowman
Chair of the Active City Network
"One of the strengths of the Active City Network is that we, as individuals, employees and employers are all moving towards a common vision. A vision of a world class city, where everyone that lives, works and visits can travel in a safe and healthy environment.
My involvement in this initiative continues to be driven by the knowledge that collaboration leads to solutions which can create a better future and that will lead to a City that thrives and celebrates healthier living.
The Mayor of London’s Transport Strategy outlines a Healthy Streets Approach which the City endorses, and a Vision for zero fatal or serious injuries. Achieving this ambition within such a busy Square Mile will require many stakeholders to work together and bringing them together is the role of the Active City Network.
Through this collaborative approach, I hope that you all recognise that everyone has a role in the current and future success of the City.
We look forward to making a difference to our City’s future with your help and support".
