2019 CCS CityMark Awards
2019 CCS CityMark Awards
13 June 2019
Reduction of road danger for all users of our streets is a key policy of the City of London Corporation. Part of this strategy is to work with the construction industry to improve Work Related Road Safety (WRRS) standards. Contractors, and their supply chains, have now built adherence to CLOCS and FORS standards into their normal practices.
As part of the Considerate Contractors Scheme the City Corporation include checks on this compliance by monitoring sites as part of our regular visits.
This is linked to the work that the City Corporation's Road Danger Reduction Team undertake, and you will notice on most sites that the hoardings have a sign displaying the CityMark road safety message.
The Road danger Reduction Team have three awards for Construction Logistics planning, the best Client/Principal Contractor in supply chain management, and to acknowledge the excellent work of the Traffic Marshals.
Client/Principal Contractor Award 2019
The City Corporation always encourages large developments to engage with the City’s Highways Officers at the earliest opportunity to help their design team to appreciate the particular challenges of construction in the City of London. As part of this, Logistics Plans help both the development team and City Corporation to understand how the project can be delivered.
In this case an Outline Logistic Plan was developed by the promoter before construction teams were on board, and has been amended as the design has progressed, with input from the Contractor.
The main contractor has maximised internal delivery space by adapting the design to allow construction vehicles within the building structure, as well as using a pit lane outside the site.
We would like to congratulate the Client/Principal Contractor Award winner: CITYGROVE AND SKANSKA AT 60 LONDON WALL.
Traffic Marshal Team Award 2019
The award in this section recognises the valuable and essential work undertaken by traffic marshals. This Project has had to contend with huge pedestrians flows past (and through) the site, alongside a large Crossrail site.
Working with their logistics company they have been able to control a large number of deliveries safely through a very busy area.
We would like to congratulate SIR ROBERT McALPINE and ALANDALE LOGISTICS AT 100 LIVERPOOL STREET.
Contractor Logistics Award 2019
The award goes to a Principal Contractor who engaged with the City Corporation before demolition to develop their Logistics Plan. This required design changes, altering loading bay positions to accommodate utility works and road closures, and dealing with passing traffic and pedestrians at a very busy junction. Early engagement helped to identify the constraints and opportunities.
Combining traffic management with an adjacent site helped, but crucially the site team had to strictly coordinate and time deliveries to the site.
Good communications and liaison, along with controlled deliveries has helped the Contractor to keep the project on programme.
Congratulations to KNIGHT HARWOOD AT 60 MOORGATE who received this award.
