Aldgate Square Community Cycling Event
3 December 2020
The Aldgate square community cycling event was a huge success. The event had a good turnout and there was good feedback from the public and attendees.
A free socially distanced cycle safety event was held at Aldgate Square on Wednesday 4 November 2020.
Event partners delivered various activities to promote cycle safety in the City. The event was held in partnership with the City of London Corporation, the City of London Police, Havebike and Sustrans, and was supported by Aldgate Connect BID.
The City of London Police delivered bike security marking, and used virtual reality headsets to show cyclists the point of view from other vehicles to help cyclists understand what drivers can and can’t see.
Havebike mechanics delivered bike safety checks and tune ups, and delivered training on basic bike maintenance, bike posture and positioning, and replacing an inner tube.
The event had a good turnout and there was good feedback, with one member of the public saying that the event staff were “friendly and efficient” and that the event was “good timing”, and another said that they were “so pleased to chat to the mechanic”.
“At havebike, we know what an instrumental role cycling can play in boosting the health and wellbeing of local populations. It is a great privilege for us to continue to provide support for cycle safety in the city in partnership with the City of London Corporation. It was fantastic to see such excellent turnout and enthusiasm at our Aldgate Square Roadshow..”
Toby Zeidler, Digital Marketing, Havebike Limited.
“A great event engaging with our cycle community, demonstrating the virtual reality software for cycle safety. This is a great tool to show cyclists the danger of passing large vehicles on the nearside. Working with our partners from the City of London Corporation, we were able to offer riders advice about being visible during the winter months and provide some high visibility items to assist our commuters.”
