Clocks Go Back cycle safety roadshow
Clocks Go Back cycle safety roadshow
5 November 2020
In collaboration with the City of London Corporation, the City of London Police, havebike and Sustrans, the latest cycle safety roadshow in the City of London took place along Embankment.
The event was held on Monday 26 October, to coincide with the clocks going back the day before. The event attracted a great response from passing traffic, glad to stop and experience every aspect of the event on their way home. There was a wonderful atmosphere as the sun set and the response from attendees was very positive.
Passing cyclists and those who had attended especially for the event were welcomed by all parties and were grateful for the services and safety equipment they received. The activities delivered helped promote safer cycling in the dark, maintenance best practices and awareness of other road users.
The event offered free bicycle tune ups and safety checks from havebike. Attendees received free training on basic maintenance, posture and puncture repair from on-site havebike mechanics.
The City of London Police delivered free bike security marking, as well as the ‘exchanging places’ activity, allowing riders to see the road from a HGV driver’s perspective. They were also able to give cyclists advice and equipment to encourage safer cycling in the dark, such as hi-viz vests.
Event partners Sustrans were also in attendance to help engage with the community and promote safe cycling behaviours.
“At havebike, we believe that well maintained bikes make for confident and safe riding. We are committed to supporting cycle safety in the city. We’re very proud to work alongside the City of London Corporation in achieving this goal. It was great to give advice to cyclists on maintaining their bikes correctly. Those who were less confident in their machines all received a complimentary discount on their next collect and return service.”

“We had a fantastic evening at the Cycle Safety Roadshow. It was a great opportunity to engage with commuters and offer them free services which were gratefully received. It’s very important to our work at the City of London Police to encourage more cycling and providing guidance on safety is vital to this. We look forward to continued success at future events.”
Crime Reduction Officer, City of London Police.
“It was great to see riders heading into the dark evening with high visibility vests, tuned-up bikes, new lights and a better understanding of cycle safety on the first day since the clocks went back. This event will help to make sure that those cycling on the road stay safe and well this winter, in the City of London and beyond."
Senior Healthy Streets Officer, Sustrans.
