Are you aware of some of the fantastic free cycling services that the City of London Corporation is offering to businesses in the Square Mile which are part of the Active City Network?
Cycling in the City of London has grown in popularity and in 2016 pedal cyclists represented almost 26% of vehicles.
The safety for cyclists has improved, but there is still work to be done as the popularity continues to grow.
As part of the City Corporations commitment to both improving the safety and promoting the benefits of cycling to businesses, staff and residents, we can provide some of the following free services through the ACN.
Each of these can be tailored to individual organisations, delivering them on dates and at times which suit you best.
Social Rides
A dedicated team of trained instructors are standing by to deliver carefully marshalled lunchtime or evening rides around the City.
- 1 to 1.5 hours.
- Suitable for a mixture of abilities
- Start at a location of your choice
- All bikes will be checked by instructors
- Arranged to start nearby Santander Bike Dock to allow those without bikes to take part.
Cycle Skills
These sessions are provided by Cycle Confident. Whether you’re just starting out or want to commute, if you work in the City you are entitled to up to four hours of advice on how to build your confidence and skills.
The fully qualified, local instructors offer:
- Complete beginner training
- On-road training
- Expertise with planning and riding your commute
Training is available 7 days a week and sessions can be run:
- One-to-one as an individual
- With a friend
- As a community group
- As a family
- As a group of colleagues
Maintenance
Dr Bike service
Professional bike mechanics set up stations with your business offering free cycle maintenance checks and advice.
Dr Bike will check the general road-worthiness of your bike; brakes, tyres, gears etc. and will fix problems with your bike if it's possible to do so there and then. Otherwise they will advise you on what is wrong, so you can take your cycle to a bike shop and explain the problem.
Cycle maintenance courses
We can offer short courses to staff covering basic to advanced bicycle maintenance.
Tool Box Talks
An open forum to discuss concerns around cycling and ask questions to members of the City of London Corporation’s Road Danger Reduction team, local cycling businesses and the City of London Police.
