Greening St. Mary Axe during street works

Lunchtime Streets trial in St. Mary Axe this March
This March, while Thames Water install new pipes on Leadenhall and the streets are closed, you can eat your lunch on temporary ‘parklets’ as part of our Lunchtime Streets trial.
Digging up streets to repair utilities is not usually something associated with green spaces to sit to enjoy music and sports. The Active City Network is working with the building managers on St Mary Axe to provide green features to help soak up the dust and pollution and provide a pleasant environment to have lunch, an outdoor meeting or just take a rest.
When the street re-opens after the works, the crossing over Leadenhall will be improved for pedestrian safety with raising the junction platform, tactile paving and revised traffic signalling and crossings.
To celebrate space for walking and cycling, The ACN will arrange four days of events from 12pm to 2pm on:
- Tuesday 19 March and Thursday 21 March
- Tuesday 26 March and Thursday 28 March
This will include stands from the City Corporation, City of London Police, cycle skills, live music, sports and more.
Join us for the last two weeks in March on St Mary Axe!
