Successful cycle safety roadshow event at Sir Robert McAlpine
9 October 2020
The Sir Robert McAlpine cycle safety event delivered activities to promote cycle safety and support the community with their cycling commute. The event, supported by various partners had a great turnout and there was some wonderful feedback from those who attended.
A socially distanced cycle safety event for Sir Robert McAlpine staff was held on Wednesday 23 September at Moor Lane in the City of London. Cyclists passing by on the day were also welcome to attend and take advantage of the great support available at the event. Event partners delivered activities to promote safer cycling, safer cycles and to support construction workers with their cycling commute.
The event was held in partnership with the City of London Police, Havebike, Pedal Me, Transport for London and Sustrans.
The City of London Police delivered bike security marking and Havebike mechanics delivered a Dr Bike session. Pedal Me and Michael Barratt, Development Impact Assessment Manager at Transport for London were also in attendance to promote cargo bike training and cargo bike usage to construction companies. Pedal Me even arrived with a cement mixer in a cargo bike! This got a lot of attention and showed how construction companies could utilise cargo bikes for their deliveries.
The event had a fantastic turnout and there was some good feedback. #safercycles #saferbehaviours
“It was fantastic partnering with the City of London Corporation for a cycling roadshow. Not only did our own employees benefit, but we were able to engage with the wider local community. As a company, it is important for us to encourage more people to cycle, but ensure that they do so safely. Working with the City of London Corporation on this event was a great support in these aims and we look forward to hosting another event in the future.”
Laura Regan, Community Manager, Sir Robert McAlpine
“I really enjoyed attending and assisting at the cycle safety event at Moor Lane. During the morning, cyclists were able to get their bikes security tagged by the City of London Police team and/or receive a cycle safety check and tune up by Havebike. The teams were also on hand to discuss any associated questions. It was nice to see a lot of interest from parents who use bikes to transport their children. Pedal Me’s cargo bike showcase got a lot of attention and showed the utility of the cargo bike. Thank you to City of London Corporation and your partners for a great event.”
Michael Barratt, Development Impact Assessment Manager, Transport for London
"The Moor Lane event was a valuable opportunity to meet with people from the construction industry at all levels, and demonstrate how cargo bikes can contribute to improving efficiency and reducing emissions by replacing jobs that would likely otherwise be fulfilled by vans. Pedal Me were keen to participate in this event to show that even moving plant material by bike is not only possible, but faster and cheaper and can be managed at low risk with the right bikes and professional standards of rider training."
James Holloway, Head of Training and Development, Pedal Me
