The trial we ran in March was very successful. During the four day event 273 participants gave us their comments o a Lunchtime Street survey.
The highlight was that an incredible 95% of participants showed support for the trial and making St Mary Axe traffic free at lunchtime.
88% said they support or strongly support the diversion of daytime traffic from St Mary Axe to make space for street activities on a permanent basis and 85% of participants rated their experience as being enjoyable or extremely enjoyable.
Following on from this trial (on an already closed road), Lunchtime Streets will be return to St Mary Axe in August and will remove of all non-essential traffic from the area for the lunch period.
During the 13, 14, 15 August we will create extra space for the local community to enjoy a range of on-street activities during their lunch break. Please come and give us your view and feedback on this initiative to make the streets safer
"Lunchtime Streets will engage with the public and re-envision how public space can be used, while also trialling methods of retiming freight and serving traffic".
We encourage you to come down and give us your views because understanding the effects and perceptions of the local community when reducing traffic at a peak times, when most people are travelling on foot or bicycle will be key to making the streets safer
